PWSL deck officials training update
The PWSL Deck officials certification and training materials are ready for 2026. Please distribute to prospective officials ASAP so they can be ready for the season!
There will be updated videos for Clerk of Course and computer reps/operators posted later this week or early next week.
Full details are available at the Officials and Volunteers training page on the PWSL website. If officials only have time to watch one thing, make it the "what's new" video.
Referee Clinic: IMPORTANT Reminder, the in-person referee training clinic is tomorrow, May 20 at 6:30 pm at the Wellington Community pool clubhouse. We'll start promptly, with lots to present and discuss. I'll lead the training with backup from a panel of experienced PWSL/USA Swimming referees. Please have referees and prospective referees there if you can! (clinic slides attached)
PWSL Stroke and Turn training is live. Details and links on the website. Remember, new officials must:
1. Take the PWSL Stroke and Turn recorded training clinic
2. Take the PWSL Stroke and Turn test and score at least 70%; upload results to the linked google form. (link on training page)
3. Apprentice on deck with experienced officials
4. once the prospective official is comfortable making calls and the team's head official certifies they are ready, they can work on their own
5. USA swimming officials can upload proof of certification and skip training
6. Experienced summer officials can waive training with certification from their team's head official.
Live training for new starters: This Saturday, May 23 at Central Park Aquatics Center in Manassas. Arrive between 10:45am and 11am. We'll have a short prep clinic, then new starters will have the opportunity to observe and start live novice swimmers in an unsanctioned "Fun meet." Hopefully gets them some valuable experience before time trials/week 1.
LIVE online Q&A sessions for officials/computers: There will be live online "open house" style Q&A sessions at the following dates and times. If you aren't available the night of your "focus," come to one of the other nights - all questions are welcome at every session.
MICROSOFT TEAMS LINK will be posted to the website 15-20 minutes before the start of each session.
